Either Neither / Either....or and Neither....nor

Rule 1: Either / Neither used alone → Singular Verb

Basic Rule

When Either or Neither is used alone as a pronoun, it generally takes a singular verb.

  • Either is correct. ✅

  • Neither is available. ✅

  2. Neither is ready for the test.
    दोनों में से कोई भी test के लिए तैयार नहीं है।

  4. Neither is responsible for the mistake.
    दोनों में से कोई भी गलती के लिए जिम्मेदार नहीं है।

Rule 2: Either...or / Neither...nor → Nearest Subject Controls the Verb

Basic Rule

जब sentence में:

Either + Subject + or + Subject + Verb

या

Neither + Subject + nor + Subject + Verb

हो, तो verb उस subject के अनुसार आएगा जो verb के सबसे पास है।

याद रखें:

Nearest Subject = Nearest Verb

    शिक्षक या विद्यार्थी जिम्मेदार हैं।
    → students = plural → are

    मेरे दोस्त या मेरा भाई Delhi जा रहा है।
    → brother = singular → is

    → friends = plural → are

  7. Either the manager or the workers have made this decision.
    Manager या workers ने यह निर्णय लिया है।
    → workers = plural → have

  8. Either the workers or the manager has made this decision.
    Workers या manager ने यह निर्णय लिया है।
    → manager = singular → has

    → parents = plural → are

    न तो उसके माता-पिता और न ही लड़का घर पर है।

  3. Neither the teacher nor the students have completed the work.
    न तो शिक्षक और न ही विद्यार्थियों ने काम पूरा किया है।
    → students = plural → have

  4. Neither the students nor the teacher has completed the work.
    न तो विद्यार्थियों और न ही शिक्षक ने काम पूरा किया है।
    → teacher = singular → has

  5. Neither my friends nor my brother wants to join us.
    न तो मेरे दोस्त और न ही मेरा भाई हमारे साथ जुड़ना चाहता है।
    → brother = singular → wants

    न तो मेरा भाई और न ही मेरे दोस्त हमारे साथ जुड़ना चाहते हैं।
